About St. John of Kronstadt Orthodox Church

True Orthodox · Old Calendar · Faithful to the Apostolic Tradition

St. John of Kronstadt Orthodox Church in the Rio Grande Valley is a mission of the True Orthodox Church, preserving the unbroken faith, worship, and discipline of the Orthodox Church as handed down from the Holy Apostles, safeguarded by the Seven Ecumenical Councils, and defended by the New Martyrs and Confessors of the 20th century.

Our parish stands within the Apostolic and Catacomb tradition of those who resisted the modern departures of Ecumenism, Modernism, and Sergianism — the same three errors consistently condemned in the authoritative history of our Metropolia.

We trace our ecclesial lineage through the Old Calendarist Greek Church, aided by hierarchs of the Russian Church Abroad, and confirmed in autonomy for missionary work in the West. For this reason, we hold fast to the Julian (Old) Calendar, the ancient liturgical life of the Church, and the fullness of Holy Tradition without alteration or compromise.

Our Worship and Parish Life

We gather each week to celebrate the Divine Liturgy, to keep the feasts of the Church, and to live the Orthodox Christian life as it has been lived for centuries.

Our parish worships exclusively according to the traditional Eastern Orthodox rite, preserving the prayers, hymns, and sacred actions that have formed the heart of Orthodox life since the earliest centuries.

Here, the faithful find:

  • the Holy Mysteries offered in their ancient form
  • the ascetical and sacramental life of Orthodoxy
  • the unchanged teachings of the Holy Fathers
  • a refuge from the spiritual confusion of the modern world

St. John of Kronstadt Church exists to bring the Apostolic Faith to all people — whether returning to the faith of their ancestors or discovering Orthodoxy for the first time.

Our Pastor

Our pastor, Priest Antonios Altermatt, has served the community for a decade with dedication and pastoral care. Through his leadership, Archpriest Antonios fosters a parish life marked by reverence, fellowship, and spiritual growth, guiding all who come to St. John's toward a deeper encounter with Christ and His Holy Church.

Our Identity as True Orthodox

St. John of Kronstadt Church stands firmly within the confession of the True Orthodox Church, upholding:

  • the Old Calendar
  • the fullness of Apostolic and Patristic Tradition
  • the rejection of Ecumenism, Modernism, and Sergianism
  • the continuity of the Catacomb Church
  • the missionary calling to restore Orthodoxy in the West

We are a parish for all who seek the fullness of the Orthodox Christian Faith, without innovation, without compromise, and without submission to the errors that have overtaken much of the modern religious world.

Our Mission

We exist to:

  • proclaim the Gospel of Christ
  • preserve the ancient Orthodox faith
  • offer the Holy Mysteries in purity
  • form a community of repentance, prayer, and love
  • bring the Apostolic Church to the people of the Rio Grande Valley

St. John of Kronstadt Orthodox Church is a beacon of traditional Orthodoxy, rooted in the witness of the Catacomb Saints and the True Orthodox Church, standing firm in the faith once delivered to the saints.
